Warm plays cool in our Gradient Chess set, a colourful take on the classic strategy game. Thirty-two painted wooden pieces shade through a gradient, one side in blues and the other in yellows, oranges and reds, on a natural wood board with a modern chequerboard. It is a colourful wooden chess set that looks as good on a coffee table as it plays.

Why we made it

Every game in our Gradient range starts with the studio colour wheel. For chess, we split it in two: warm against cool. The game itself is unchanged, so players of any level can use it, and it's a good way to learn. A modern chess set for people who love design as much as they love the game.

Ways to use it

  • Games night: a full 32-piece set for proper play, with an instruction sheet for anyone learning
  • On display: leave it set up on a coffee table, shelf or desk between games
  • Gifting: a chess set gift for design lovers, birthdays, new homes, Father's Day and Christmas
